     Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal

Description: A collection of essays by Ayn Rand, Alan Greenspan, and Nathaniel Branden proving that capitalism is the only system geared to the life of a rational being and the only moral politico-economic system in history.

     ISBN: 0-451-14795-2

"Uncle Eric" books which include: Uncle Eric Talks About Personal, Career and Financial Security, Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?, Whatever Happened to Justice?, Are You Liberal? Conservative? or Confused?, Ancient Rome: How It Affects You Today, Evaluating Books: What Would Thomas Jefferson Think About This?, The Money Mystery, The Clipper Ship Strategy

     By Richard J. Maybury

Description: Using the epistolary style of writing (using letters to tell a story), Mr. Maybury plays the part of an economist writing a series of letters to his niece or nephew. Each book in the series attempts to be consistent with the principles of America's Founders. I would recommend  reading these books in the order above.

     How Now Shall We Live

     Myth of the Robber Barons

     By Burton W. Folsom Jr.

Description: "Americans are taught that the early industrialists were corrupt "robber barons" who charged unfair prices and wages until they were brought under the control by the heroic United States government. Folsom correctly shows that there were two groups of early industrialists. One was the monopolists who were indeed corrupt and were able to commit unforgivable abuses because the government was helping them do so. The other was the market entrepreneurs who had little or no connection with government and behaved honorably, helping improve the lot of workers and consumers alike."*

    The Purpose-Driven Life

     By Rick Warren

Description: This book has been written to be read over a 40 day period reading only a few pages every day. It is a great book for finding meaning and purpose in life. Most all Self-help books, today, suggest that you try to discover the meaning and purpose in life by looking inside yourself, but Rick Warren says that this is the wrong place to start. You must begin with God. You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense.

What others had to say about this book: "Make sure you're not missing the point of your life--read this book! The Purpose-Driven Life will guide you to greatness--through living the Great Commandment and the Great Commission."--Billy Graham and Franklin Graham.

"Disorientated about your direction in life? Are decisions tough to make and steps hard to take? If so, Rick Warren has written a masterpiece of wise counsel for you. Whether you are a seeker, a new believer, or a seasoned saint, let God use these pages to place your feet firmly on the right path!"--Max Lucado, Author, Traveling Light

     Lord Foulgrin’s Letters

     By Randy Alcorn

     Published by Multnomah Publishers

Description: Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. Not only is this book fun to read but it dispels many myths and answers many questions about Christianity. For those who are Christians this book helps us to “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12-13).

What others had to say about this book: “Lord Foulgrin’s Letters is a welcome addition to the world of Christian fiction. Randy Alcorn provides a needed reminder of just what it means for Christians to be engaged in battle with principalities and powers not of this world. But Lord Foulgrin’s Letters won’t send readers looking for demons under every bed—it will send them to the right place, the study of God’s Word.”--Charles Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries and author of How Now Shall We Live

“In renowned C.S. Lewis style, Randy Alcorn demonstrates that Satan is a liar and his demons are masters of deceit. In Lord Foulgrin’s Letters we hear how demons plan to ruin us, keep us from God, and make us miserable and unfruitful. If you are interested in gaining a better understanding of Satan’s strategies and becoming more successful in resisting him, this book is a must read.”--Tim LaHaye, creator and coauthor of the Left Behind series and Beverly LaHaye founder of Concerned Women of America and author of The Act of Marriage

“Randy Alcorn has written one of the most unusual and important inquiries into the demon mind since The Screwtape Letters. It is no easy challenge for a dedicated Christian author to realistically portray the spirit realm, but Alcorn rivets our attention in a way readers aren’t accustomed to. This book will disturb, stimulate, and enlighten.”--Dr. D. James Kennedy, senior minister of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and author of Evangelism Explosion

“Randy Alcorn has brought into the twenty-first century the classic concept behind C. S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters. Written in clear, compelling style, Lord Foulgrin’s Letters is at once entertaining, fascinating, and highly illuminating. It is a book for believers and unbelievers, for young and mature Christians. I pray I never forget it.”--Angela Elwell Hunt, author of The Immortal

     Rachel's Tears

By Beth Nimmo and Darrell Scott

     Published by Thomas Nelson

     ISBN 0-7852-6848-0

     www.ThomasNelsonPublishers.com

     www.thecolumbineredemtion.com

     www.racheljoyscott.com

Description: This is the story of the Columbine shootings and the effect it had on their lives from the parents of one of the victims, Rachel Joy Scott. To quote the back of the book, "Rachel Scott was a typical teenage girl who was incredibly dedicated to following and serving Christ. Though she was mocked for her beliefs, at times doubted her faith, and constantly struggled with personal issues every teenager faces, she remained faithful to God. Then on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School, she was killed for that faith.

Rachel's Tears is a moving meditation on the life, death, and faith of Rachel as seen through the eyes of her parents and through writings and drawings from her journals. Her parents also offer a spiritual perspective on the Columbine tragedy and provide a vision of hope for preventing youth violence across the nation." This book is a great inspirational read for anyone but I think it is particularly powerful for teenagers. This book will change your life!

     Father Brown Stories

     By G. K. Chesterton

Published by Penguin Group (Penguin Popular Classics)

     ISBN 0-14-062259-4

     www.penguin.com

Description: These short stories, around 23 pages each, are cleverer, more original, and even more convincing then Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes short stories. While Sherlock Holmes is a drug addict and egocentric Father Brown is someone to look up to and model. The back of the book says, "The stories in this volume are brimming with original and witty ideas, some of which turn the classic mystery story on its head. Father Brown himself, inept, unworldly but extremely astute, also brakes with tradition in becoming one of the great men of detective fiction." We have really enjoyed reading these stories out loud while on passage.
