Signing up through this website, and being forwarded them from other subscribers, about 17 people received these position reports daily, via email, starting while we were in Mallorca. As it developed, the position reports became kind of like a log of our trip so I have posted the position reports from our Atlantic Crossing for those who did not get a chance to see them. They might also be interesting to read for those who want to know what it was like for us to cross, from the Med to the Caribbean, in May/June, an unusual time. By all the books and weather services, May/June is the best time to cross. The only reason no one does is because this is when the cruising season in the Med. is starting and the cruising season in the Caribbean is ending. We had just got through the Med. and had cruised the Caribbean before, we would also get a chance to cruise the Caribbean later, and just wanted to get home so this worked out perfectly for us.
I have set this up so that it is easy to read one position report a day (there are only 31 short reports). I highly recommend doing this if you want to experience as fully as possible, from the comforts of your home, what it is like to cross an ocean. These reports will transport you at 5-10 knots from Gibraltar to the Canaries and then 20 days to the Caribbean. To get the most out of these reports, imagine that everyday that you read one, excepting the ones from the Canaries, is a day you are out at sea. If you think it's too tiresome to read these everyday or you start putting them off imagine that reading a paragraph everyday is a whole lot easier than sailing on the Atlantic all those days.
