Our position is...
28 degrees 07 minutes North, 15 degrees 25 minutes West. We are still med moored at the wharf on Grand Canaria. We went in to the historic part of town today and found it to be really nice. The mixture of new and old is rather eclectic here. We got an aerial view of the city from one of the towers of the Catedral de Santa Ana where I finally put my finger on how to describe Las Palmas. All together the city looks like a pile of junk but each building taken on its own is beautiful and enjoyable. I thought Italy was supposed to be the world of Piazzas but here there are little squares cooled by trees and fountains everywhere. Walking the historic streets it felt like I should be passing the likes of Sir Francis Drake and Columbus. Columbus did actually come here on his way to "the new world" and boats today, as we are, still take his path across the Atlantic. It was pretty hilarious when we got back to Immanuel and found our boarding ramp had been raised by the tide so high that we couldn't even reach it. My dad was able to get the ramp within arms reach. One of us had to do it so I grabbed on and swung to the boat using the ramp like monkey bars then lowered it for everyone else. I bet the guard watching the security cameras, who showed them off to my dad yesterday, got a good laugh!
